Work Based Learning
The restaurant structure is only successful when employees work as a team and the strength of our team is built on knowledge. Participants of the program will learn all aspects of the restaurant. Each trainee will complete front of house training, back of house training, as well as marketing, culture, and economics. Simultaneously, all participants will learn leadership skills, personal finance, computer & math skills, as well as soft skills.The goal of this training course is to provide students with a comprehensive knowledge of the complete working of a restaurant. Students will leave the program with full knowledge of the structure of a restaurant, proper table service, and basic kitchen skills. The student will demostrate professional behavior and competencies in customer service while developing a range of leadership skills through role playing, presentations, and labs.
The objective of this accelerated training program is to provide students a space to explore the exciting careers in hospitality; one of the leading industries of Sarasota.
Students will learn the culture, economics and marketing basics of running a restaurant. They will acquire a baseline understanding of all positions that exist within a restaurant and the tools required to succeed including but not limited to proper table service, essential kitchen skills, purchasing, menu development, recipe costing and marketing.
The students will demonstrate professional behavior and competencies in customer service while developing a range of leadership skills through role playing, presentations, case studies, quizzes, and labs.
During the 9 week program an educator will lead the students through their exploration of the potential careers in hospitality. Through community business partnerships, each week will showcase a guest presenter who is an expert in their respective field. Every week the students will be immersed in hands-on labs that will give them opportunities to build empowering knowledge, express their creativity, and cultivate confidence.
Each week will be designed to prepare the students for the Food Handlers Serv Safe Certification test which will be administered during the final week.
This certificate is a valuable addition to a resume. This final week will be focused on bulding their resume and reviewing for the certification test. Following the certification test a one day Job Fair will be held with our established restaurant partners offering students a direct path to employment with partnering restaurants, continuing their exploration of hospitality.
